Russell Crowe may have the reputation of being one of Hollywood’s hard men, but when filming the epic biblical tale Noah in Iceland, he has admitted that he broke down.

The majority of the Darren Aronofsky movie, which featured a star-studded cast from across the globe, was shot in the North Atlantic island, and Crowe has revealed that such were the conditions that he got completely overwhelmed at one stage.

The Hollywood star explained that they were filming a scene in Iceland and he had to fall into seawater that was just four degrees Celsius, which after being in and out of the water, semi-clad, all day was particularly demanding physically. He pointed out that there were huge rain towers in the sky which were constant for 36 days, adding that he couldn’t take it any more as it was like Chinese water torture.

The actor went on to say that he went into hypothermia at one stage and was just lying wrapped up on the stones and couldn’t get up. He admitted that he couldn’t stop crying and was being hugged by seven or eight crew members who were piling more blankets on him as they tried to get him to stop shaking.

Noah, which features some of Iceland’s most stunning landscape, also starred Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins.
